The Kirk Newman Art School, recognized for its highly talented faculty members and master instructors, offers workshops and classes in a variety of different art techniques and departments. Both 15- or 30-minute one-on-one critiques are available with these accomplished teachers which include Julie Devers, head of ceramics, and Denise Lisiecki, the director of the art school and chair of the 2-D department. Prices vary depending on the department.

Participating departments include ceramics, creative writing, drawing, pastels, painting, and fiber.

Ceramics

Join the head of ceramics Julie Devers. Artists are asked to please have a few pieces ready to show. A critical look at your work is important for your growth as an artist, looking at what works and what doesn’t in a nurturing and supportive discussion.

Writing

Elissa Cahn is offering manuscript reviews for projects five pages or fewer. The review may include feedback on aspects of fiction, such as plot, conflict, point of view, setting, dialogue, voice/tone, scene, and technical concerns like sentence structure.

Drawing, Pastel, or Painting

Experience a one-on-one critique of your drawings, pastels, or paintings with Denise Lisiecki, the director of the Kirk Newman Art School and Chair of 2-D Department. Denise will share her knowledge and expertise along with constructive criticism.

Fiber

What would Gretchen do? Experience a one-on-one critique of your fiber art with Gretchen Huggett. She will share her knowledge and expertise along with constructive criticism and suggestions. Time may be available to ask technical questions.

Dyeing

Join Rita Petteys for a one-on-one critique! Subject matter includes dyeing with acid dyes, procion MX fiber reactive dyes; dyeing yarn, fiber, fabric, and clothing; color theory, color mixing, and other fiber arts techniques. Natural dyeing is not available.
