Asian Art from the Collection of Dr. Paul and Esther Wang

August 25, 2012 - December 9, 2012

The Wang Collection is among the distinguished collections of East Asian art in Kalamazoo County. Dr. Paul Wang is not only an internationally recognized painter and calligrapher in traditional Chinese style, but he is also an avid collector of Asian art. Building upon the collection of paintings, calligraphies, and prints formed by his father, Wang Shangyi, Dr. Wang began collecting in 1968. Working with reputable dealers and major auction houses, he has expanded the collection to include fine examples of Chinese ceramics, metal sculptures, stone and bamboo root carvings, and ivories.

As we celebrate the second anniversary of the opening of the Joy Light Gallery of Asian Art, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is honored to share a selection of works from the Wang Collection. The exhibition is dedicated in memory of Esther Wang (1937-2012).
