The fundamentals of lighting will be covered including; strobes (studio and on-camera flashes), reflectors, softboxes, gels, and more. Learn how to set up and manipulate light for the most effective results. In addition to demos students will be active in setting up the strobes in the studio and other environments.

Bookmaking with Lightroom Classic (807)

Students should come prepared with a book project in mind. You could compile your favorite recipes with photos, edit your travel photos to the “best of” or dig into your family photo album to create a book to share with family and friends. We will work on sequencing, editing and making adjustments to the images for your book that can be uploaded to Blurb. Students will have the option of using scanners or a copy-stand to digitize images for their book project.

Alternative Photo Process/Cyanotypes (808)

Start with coating paper using cyanotype chemistry and making photograms with botanicals and objects. Move to the computer lab and generate digital negatives to print on our freshly coated cyanotype paper. This digital negative-making technique can be used for most alternative printing processes, blending digital technology with hands-on printing.

Cyanotypes with Embroidery (809)

Transform an old photograph using coated watercolor paper with cyanotype chemistry to make a photogram using botanicals and a cyanotype print from a digital negative to be embroidered. Email a jpg file to the instructor for the print. Learn tips for embroidering on photo paper as the instructor teach different stitches to embellish your work. Bring your own photo(s), seed beads, sequins, or anything special you may want to use. Needle and thread provided. Examples from contemporary embroidery artists using photographs will be used for inspiration.

Combine a 19th century color printing process Gum Bichromate, with 21st-century digital negatives. Students will be taught the fundamentals of Photoshop to modify their images. Polymer Photogravure (812)

Using a polymer-coated plate and a digital positive, create an intaglio-etched plate for high-quality images approaching those produced using traditional copperplate gravure. This process produces a beautiful photographic gradation of tones.

Encaustics Techniques; Transfers & Painting (813)

The encaustic medium will be used in combination with photographs, photo transfers, and collage techniques. Learn various techniques for adding color.
