Are you interested in making several cyanotype images at September’s South Street Print Fest and want to learn how to enhance your pieces using hand coloring techniques and collaged elements? This workshop is for you! Workshop tuition will cover your cyanotype registration and materials for the Sept 26 event and it will also support your workshop supplies the next day. Tuition is a per person rate even if you choose to participate in the event as a group. No experience necessary.

The Dutch Master painters of a foregone era created beautiful moody pictures using composition and light which we’ll use as inspiration for our image making, learning how to adjust lighting and camera settings for best results. Students will bring personal subject matter and objects to class and will design compositions that visually communicate personal meaning. Each week, students will have the option to review and discuss the images they’ve created. This class supports photographers but is also an ideal class for painters looking to create reference images for their works.

Dahlias are exquisite flowers to photograph and going to the source on a sunny afternoon is a perfect opportunity to capture their beauty. Besides photographing a variety of dahlias in a local garden, we’ll also have cut flowers with various surface backgrounds for photographing in natural light. Directions to the dahlia garden will be emailed to registered participants. Please bring your camera with manual settings. A tripod and macro gear are optional, but recommended.
The encaustic medium will be used in combination with photographs, photo transfers, and collage techniques. Learn various techniques for adding color. Through the layering of color with pigment sticks and the encaustic medium, you will create transparency and depth to your imagery. Using a polymer-coated plate and a digital positive, you’ll create an intaglio-etched plate for high-quality images approaching those produced using traditional copperplate gravure. This process produces a beautiful photographic gradation of tones.
