This is an opportunity to sample the process of fusing glass. Students will learn the basics of cutting and preparing glass to make a sun catcher or nightlight. No previous experience is required.

In this unique multimedia class, students will learn mold making to create colorful and dynamic mask forms. The experience will begin at the Kirk Newman Art School as students learn mold making techniques to create detailed plaster face castings. On 1/25 students will learn how to blow glass at Glass Art Kalamazoo’s hot shop and will have the option of an open studio session on 2/1 to trim and refine their work in progress. On 2/8, students will learn how to fuse glass into their molds at the hot shop. Students will return to the KIA sculpture studio on 2/15 and 2/22 to fabricate creative steel armatures and frames to mount and display their glass works. This class is open to all skill levels. No prior glass or metals experience is necessary.

Design unique pieces of glass art using colorful transparent and opaque glass. Learn the basic techniques of cutting, shaping, grinding, and fusing. Projects will include sun catchers, night lights, and a small slumped bowl. All materials provided with additional materials available for purchase.
