INTRO TO FASHION ILLUSTRATION

During the first half of this course, students will study the work of illustrators and explore various illustration styles/mediums through in-class exercises; working towards finding their personal illustration style. The second half of the class will focus on rendering clothing and fabrics more realistically, and building a mini portfolio of fashion illustrations.
MIXED MEDIA IN PAINT

Learn how to create works of art using more than just a paintbrush! Students will learn unconventional techniques in painting through a variety of paint mediums. This class will explore the use of different alternative techniques in acrylic, watercolor, oil, and other paints. Unconventional techniques such as molding paste, wax resists, and acrylic skins will also be explored.
PHOTOGRAPHY

Beginning students shoot, develop, and print film photos in the KIA’s well-equipped traditional darkroom. Students will master the basics of photography’s history, as well as fundamentals of competition and design. Cameras and all materials will be provided.

An independent study oriented class with one-on-one instruction provided with an emphasis on the exploration of visual culture through drawing and painting mediums and subject matter. CLAY ON THE WHEEL

Students will create vessels on the potter’s wheel through demonstrations of basic skills and a variety of techniques and hand building. An independent class with one-on-one instruction developing a personal style will be discussed. Creating pieces using a variety of techniques will be the goal.

We will visit the Kirk Newman Art Schools various art studios to do things like painting, printmaking, and clay. Every day will be something new. The session is one week, Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm, with a supervised one-hour lunch period. Please be sure to enroll your student in the grade level they will be entering in the fall of 2025.
