The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) is located in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan.  The mission of the KIA is to promote and cultivate the creation and appreciation of the visual arts in West Michigan. We believe the arts are for everyone; they inspire, fulfill, and transform.

As the largest fine art museum and community based art school in the region, the KIA provides access to art and art making experiences not otherwise available. Our exhibitions and programs are designed to appeal to diverse, intergenerational audiences through broad representation, engaging content, and strong partner collaborations.

Museums for All

In support of our mission to ensure Art is for Everyone, the KIA has joined the Museums for All program. Museums for All, a signature access initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM), is intended to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and become a lifelong museum-goer. Through the Museums for All initiative, the KIA offers admission for $1.00 to SNAP EBT cardholders and accompanying youth ages 17 and younger simply by presenting their EBT card and a photo ID. The KIA also offers a specially discounted family membership for $20 per year which must be purchased at the KIA’s Guest Services Desk during regular museum operating hours. A valid SNAP EBT card with photo ID must be presented at the time of purchase to receive the membership discount.

Art Bridges Foundation, Access for All

Thanks to the generosity of a grant funded initiative by the Art Bridges Foundation, Access for All program, a national arts nonprofit founded by philanthropist Alice Walton, the KIA will offer free general admission, and extended evening hours from 11am to 8pm to all museum guests on the fourth Thursday of each month, through August 2027.

The goal of Access for All is to eliminate systemic barriers that prevent communities from experiencing the transformative power of art and making it more accessible for all.

Check out the Museum’s calendar for Access for All days and additional programming details.
