Thinking of taking a class at the KIA? “Make it and take it all in one night” and join us for the School’s Hands On event as it returns during Art Hop on Friday, March 7 from 6 to 9pm! This fun, fast-paced art making evening features a range of activities and creative projects highlighting different media students can experience in the Kirk Newman Art School.
Bring your friends and family to create a ceramic cup or raku fired vessel, hand print a tea towel, weld a metal garden art piece, produce a photogram, and more. 15 different projects will be available to enjoy. Admission to the event and some projects are free while others require nominal tickets to cover the costs of materials. Tickets for projects can be purchased at the door (1 ticket = $1) and projects range from $2-$30.
Projects include:
- Indigo dyed tote bags, dumpling bags, scrunchies, and bandanas
- Weaving and spinning demonstrations
- Photograms on postcard paper
- Moon portraits in our digital lab
- Metal jewelry wrap rings
- Metal magic wands and keychains
- Printmaking on fabric tea towels
- Handprinted linoleum block greeting cards
- Welded metal garden stakes and wall art
- Glaze and raku fire a premade ceramic vases
- Make a mug! Ceramic cup handbuilding in clay
- 15 minute wheel throwing mini lesson in clay
- 15 minute drawing mini lesson in your own keepsake sketchbook
- Bullet journaling demos and worksheets
- Mini abstract painting on canvas
- Children’s puppetry making project
