Artful Evening: Building Community through Art and Music

May 15 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

During this immersive Artful Evening event, Rev. Millard Southern will speak about the power of visual art and music to create and sustain communities, bringing diverse voices and perspectives together in harmony with one another. Following his short talk, the Bill Cessna Trio will perform live in our galleries, with Bill Cessna on keyboard, Joe Miller on drums, and Owen Cramer on bass. Sit and enjoy, or wander our exhibitions as you listen!

Rev. Southern is the pastor of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Kalamazoo. A native of Chicago, he studied theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and earned his Masters in Divinity there in 2010. The Bill Cessna Trio performs jazz music across the Midwest. Their performances pay homage to the musicians who inspire them while also incorporating original music and improvisation.

Please note that this event will not be livestreamed or posted on YouTube.
Preregistration is encouraged. Find out why.

In the event that a program is modified, postponed, or cancelled, we reach out via email to all who have preregistered. If a significant change is made on short notice, your preregistration helps to ensure that you get the word from us in the most timely manner possible.

Registering for programs in advance also helps our staff to assess set-up needs beforehand, reducing the need for last-minute adjustments to numbers of chairs, tables, etc. Further, it streamlines the check-in process when you arrive and allows us to keep you in the loop about other upcoming programs that might be of interest!
