Doet Boersma is a Dutch visual artist and educator living and working in The Netherlands. Her current work explores themes of ecology, environmental justice, and the natural landscape. In her presentation, Boersma will provide insight into the processes and methods of her current “Fertile Soil” project. By showing sources of inspiration, the working processes, and the resulting artwork, she will provide an insight into the creation and her contemplation of the fragile beauty of soil and nature. With her “Fertile Soil” project, Boersma has embarked on a new adventure with the landscape.
Boersma holds degrees in art education, drawing, and painting from the University of Applied Sciences, Leeuwarden, and Hanze University, Groningen. Her solo exhibitions include Gallery Asia Fine Art, Hong Kong, China; The Burren College of Art, Ireland; along with her solo exhibitions in The Netherlands which include Museum it Coopmanshus in Franeker; Museum Martena, Franeker; Museum in Wijchen/Nijmegen; Museum Warkum’s Erfskip, Workum and Museum Hindeloopen. She has participated in two-person and group exhibitions at the Gallery Kunstfabrik, Dusseldorf, Germany; Gallery II Quadro, Aachen, Germany; Galerie Schortgen, Luxemburg, Luxemburg; and Galerie Kunst-Klasse in Houvate, Belgium. She has taught workshops in China and throughout Europe and her artwork is represented in many private collections. In 2015 Boersma founded the Art Academy of Friesland where she is the Director and lead Professor.
Ninth Wave Studio’s owner, Linda Rzoska met Boersma in 2007 while she was teaching at the Burren College of Art in County Clare, Ireland. Boersma was there for a six-week residency. Rzoska immediately recognized Boersma’s positive energetic influence she had on her students. Rzoska invited her to be Ninth Wave Studio’s first ‘artist in residence’ so Boersma could share her energy and talents with the Kalamazoo art community.
